Dear Friends and Family,
2009 was a year of many FIRSTS for our family. Here are some highlights:
Ellie and Hannah: Our FIRST full year with twins! And we thought we were busy before! ;-) We celebrated the twins’ FIRST birthday November 12th by getting a DNA test to confirm our ever growing suspicion: Ellie and Hannah are identical twins! They seem to look more alike all the time, although they definitely have some unique differences. In January, Ellie earned the distinction of being the FIRSTSolomon child to be hospitalized. She was admitted for four nights with RSV, but thankfully made a full recovery. Hannah also got RSV, but was able to avoid the hospital. Hannah, not to be outdone by her older sister, was the FIRST to sit up, crawl, and walk. Ellie continues to maintain nearly a pound of weight over Hannah, but they are both little peanuts for their age. Ellie weighs around 18 pounds, and Hannah around 17. They both love to clap, wave, giggle, dance, and be theFIRST to get to mommy!
Nicholas: Our little guy is almost four and is all boy! He loves swords, snacks, movies, books, balls, and tying knots. We never know what we’ll find tied up these days! This was his FIRST year taking swimming lessons. He was a little fish in the pool and loved the slide and diving board. He is busy learning his alphabet and fun new words for the FIRST time. He is going to enjoy reading as much as his sisters. He also loves helping Lindsey in the kitchen.
Jenna: Jenna is seven and won the honor this year of being the FIRST Solomon child to get stitches when she fell on her chin while on a field trip. Jenna played soccer again this year and loved being aggressive on the field and scoring some goals. She started gymnastics for the FIRSTtime with Kristin. This is her FIRST year of piano lessons and she is adding to the Christmas atmosphere in our home with her renditions of “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night.”
Kristin: Kristin is nine. She played soccer for the FIRST time this year and she loved it! This was the FIRST year she and Lindsey joined our local Homeschool Performing Arts group, went to their summer camp, and performed in their fall production. Her favorite part was the choreography. She taught herself some gymnastics this year before her class started up again. We call her our piece of clay. She can bend in amazing ways!
Lindsey: Lindsey is twelve and she found several new creative outlets for the FIRST time this year. She began a family blog to highlight our adventures. You can find it at solomoneight.blogspot.com. (She loves comments! :-)) She also began digital scrapbooking and has been taking a sewing class. Lindsey played soccer again this year too. She loves to cook and has begun cooking dinner at least once a week! Yum and yeah!
Jessica: I am especially thankful for my older girls who are so helpful with their little sisters and who made this FIRST year with twins so much easier than it would have been without them! I still scrapbook once a month and host a monthly homeschool support group. I am looking forward to my FIRST mini vacation by myself in early January when I’ll fly to California for a few days to visit my sister’s family and her new baby. Paul and I went to our 20th class reunion in July. Wow, where has the time gone?
Paul: After six years in the same job position at Kellogg’s, Paul changed twice this year! FIRST, he got some distribution and warehouse experience as Director of Distribution beginning last February. That job had quite a bit of travel. Then in November, he returned to Product Availability and became for the FIRST time, Senior Director of Product Availability and Plant Distribution. He had his FIRST overseas business trip in November, a quick four day trip to Ireland . This year Paul coached for the FIRST time, heading up Kristin’s soccer team. He loved that experience, especially being able to encourage the girls. He once again made it to his Broncos’ home football games. He took a different Solomon child to each one, striving to pass on his love for WMU, and football!
Family: As a family, we took our FIRST big road trip to Kentucky along with our family study group to visit the Creation Museum . We highly recommend it! We also visited the Kentucky Horse Park , much to the excitement of our horse loving daughters, and the Air Force museum, much to the excitement of Paul! We spent time with family at Higgins Lake , took a trip to Florida/Disneyworld, and camped again at Cran-Hill Ranch. We participate in lots of fun homeschool activities. Our life is busy, but we love it!
This CHRISTmas, may you celebrate the One who FIRST loved us (I John 4:19 ). Merry Christmas and Happy 2010!
The Solomon Family
